The 2024/25 Illawarra Academy of Sport scholarship year is officially underway following the recent Induction Day held for our new cohort of athletes.
The Induction Day was held at the home of the Academy’s education partner, the University of Wollongong, as 266 athletes were officially welcomed into the new scholarship year.
Athletes from basketball, netball, netball umpires, tennis, golf, cycling, triathlon, hockey, volleyball, para sports, surf life saving and future stars programs as well as their parents, guardians, coaches, managers and support staff joined together for a morning of education on the Illawarra Academy of Sport’s values, policies, and requirements.
The athletes were welcomed into the 2024/25 scholarship year by Illawarra Academy of Sport CEO Salv Carmusciano, IAS director and life member Mr Brian Weir PSM, and Academy staff members who outlined the vision and expectations of being an Academy athlete.
“Congratulations to all the new and returning athletes who are joining the Illawarra Academy of Sport for the 2024/25 scholarship year,” Carmusciano said during his speech at the Induction Day.
“We look forward to seeing all our athletes progress in their respective sports program and we wish them well for the season ahead.”
Following the morning introduction session, athletes participated in a sports psychology lecture delivered by Condor Performance, and a financial fitness workshop provided by the Illawarra Academy of Sport’s major partner, the Illawarra Credit Union.
Athletes were then split up into their sport program groups as they met with their coaches and managers who outlined their expectations for the 2024/25 scholarship year.
The afternoon session consisted of the athletes undergoing various strength and conditioning tests, plus fitness assessments, delivered by our performance partner BaiMed.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport would like to thank all the athletes, parents, guardians, coaches, managers and support staff, plus our valued sponsors and partners, who attended our 2024/25 Induction Day.
