Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) golf athletes Charlie Kerr and Jaidon Kyriacou recently joined 107 junior golfers at the Blue Mountains Junior Masters event.

The event was played in perfect conditions at the immaculate Blackheath Golf Club and started with a diet and nutrition information session for the athletes, followed by a presentation on sports psychology on Saturday morning, and golf in the afternoon.

Charlie and Jaidon performed very well on Saturday and both finished 1 under their handicap and into the final 8 top scores at 1 over and 2 over respectively.

The day finished with a sightseeing trip to Evans lookout and a debrief on the course strategy, with a physiotherapy lecture rounding off the day’s events.

Sunday morning began with a sightseeing trip to the Three Sisters, followed by playing golf in the afternoon.

Jaidon finished tied for 10th with 10 over, while Charlie finished in 12th position at 11 over.

IAS golf manager Mark Wilmott said the tournament was a valuable experience for Charlie and Jaidon.

“The overall experience was very positive,” Wilmott said.

“Both boys conducted themselves with dignity and etiquette as representatives of the Illawarra Academy of Sport and golfers.

“The camp was very well run and the presentations were excellent.”

The Junior Masters series now heads to Bathurst Golf Club for the Peter O’Malley Junior Masters, which is set to be held from April 5th-6th, with our IAS golf athletes keen to once again put on a good show.
