IAS BlueScopeWIN Individual athletes contiue to dominate the regional, state and national athletics carnivals with several scholarship holders producing personal best and national qualifing times to bag medals of all colours. The IAS had a number of athletes compete in the NSW Country Athletics Carnival in January with some great results. Kade Szakacs recently claimed Silver at the NSW Junior Champs in the 800m with a personal best time of 1.58.78, only 0.16sec behind the race winner. This result has topped of a great month for Szakacs who only weeks earlier ran a national qualifing time of 4mins 10sec for the 1500m at the NSW Country Athletics Championships. Not to be out done, IAS BlueScopeWIN Individual Athlete Teghan Barklay competed in four events at the same NSW Country Championships, winning two Golds, 1 silver and 1 Bronze medal. Barkley won gold in the 100m Hurdles and Long Jump, Silver in high Jump with a National Qualifying height of 1.70m and a bronze in the 100meters. Finally, Joshua Park also had a busy carnival competing in five events, winning 3 silvers and a bronze. Park finished second in 100m Hurdles, 100 meters and the 200 meters which was also a new personal best. He won Bronze in the Long Jump and finished fourth in the 400m which is a great result for his first time competing in the 400m.
