The 2024 Your Local Club Academy Games drew to a close today, a conclusion that saw a number of IAS athletes take home some silverware.
In the basketball, our boys squad narrowly missed out on the grand final with a 47-42 loss to Southern Sports Academy (SSA), landing them in the bronze medal match against the Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS). The boys dug deep in another tight game, managing to come out on top and claim 3rd place.
Similarly, in the boys volleyball IAS claimed a win over Hunter to take home the bronze medal.
After an unfortunate 2-0 loss to the Hunter Academy of Sport in the morning, our hockey girls managed to turn things around in the bronze medal match against Sydney Metro Academy, where they secured a convincing 2-0 victory.
The IAS cyclists put on an excellent performance today in the Stage 3 RR. In Group 2, Lucy Allen claimed 2nd place, while Charles Alcock secured 3rd in the Scratch. A massive congratulations to Gabriel Stephenson and Luka Collins came out on top in the Junior 15 B Grade and Junior 15 A Grade respectively. Also in the Junior 15 A Grade was Hugo Alcock in 5th, Jake Barritt in 6th and James Allen in 14th.
Our netball girls also had a successful day, with both IAS 1 and 2 going undefeated. IAS 1 had wins against Sydney Netball Academy and the Western Sydney Academy of Sport, and IAS 2 against Southern Sports Academy and Far West Academy of Sport.
The matchplay section of the golf event saw the IAS play in Division 2. The first round was played against Metro North, and the team was narrowly defeated on a count back system after being tied after all matches were complete. After the set back of this loss, the players were able to rally to play in the 3rd place match beating Western Sydney District 4-1. A special mention to Jaidon and Charlie for winning all their matches. Congratulations to the golf squad for their effort and enthusiasm towards their processes and performances.
All our IAS athletes put in an incredible effort over the weekend, and put on an amazing display of talent and skill. The IAS would like to thank all our coaches, managers and parents; without such a supportive community, opportunities like this wouldn’t be possible.
Let’s do it all again next year!
