CLUB/ASSOCIATION: Corrimal / Illawarra Why did you apply for an IAS scholarship? I applied for this scholarship to improve my game, skills and knowledge of netball so in future years I can represent my state and country. Who’s your favourite professional athlete and why? Mo’onia Gerrard, an Australian Diamond / rugby 7s player, is a positive, uplifting athlete who puts 110 per cent into every game through blood, sweat and tears. Mo’onia never gives up. Her enthusiastic, friendly personality off and on the court inspires me to be like her. If you weren’t playing this sport what would you be doing and why? If I wasn’t playing netball I would be tackling and running on a rugby 7s field. Although I love my netball I also enjoy playing 7s which is good not only for my fitness and speed but for improving quick thinking in game situations. Also the development of footwork is another aspect that benefits my netball game. How would you describe yourself in one sentence? I am a cheerful, positive 14-year-old girl who loves sport and living life to the fullest. What are your plans beyond school? After school I would like to represent my country as an Australian Diamond and hopefully one day captain them. Also I would like to become a journalist, travel the world and write about the many problems our world faces, whether being positive or negative, such as religion, culture and law. If you could live anywhere in the world it would be? I would live in Hawaii. It is a wonderful place and I love the weather. What do you do in your free time? I go to the beach, play oztag, rugby 7s, touch footy, hang out with friends and I love to spend time with my family and pets. What is your favourite subject at School? PE and English. What is your greatest achievement in your sport so far? When I was 12 years old I was selected for the NSW team to represent my state in Adelaide which was an amazing experience. When did you start playing your sport and how did you get started? I was eight years old when I thought it would be great fun to participate in the netball gala day for school. I fell in love with playing netball and have enjoyed it ever since.
