Want to take the next step in your Basketball career?
The IAS Basketball Program is designed to support the developmental needs of the regions young talented Basketball players by providing industry leading high-performance sport development programs. Scholarships are offered for a 12-month period commencing in October and concluding in September. However, there is a heavier focus on the program from September through to state team selection trials in April.
The aim of the program is to provide a pre-elite pathway program offering additional development on top of club, representative or school-based training.
The program will provide coaching, training and competition to improve athlete development with a view to:
- Develop the fundamental skill level of athletes which will enhance their opportunities for selection into NSW State squads and teams
- Prepare athletes to a level where their transition to any NSW State Team is ‘seamless’ in terms of programs or pathways
- Increase the level of success of those athletes at competition and events in Basketball competition nationwide
- Provide an introduction and progression into sport specific strength and conditioning
- Provide education around athletic development as well as personal development in topics such as Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Media Skills / Public Speaking, Youth Leadership, Drugs in Sport
- The program will conduct weekly skills based and strength and conditioning training to which attendance is expected

2024-25 Scholarship
Athlete Eligibility
The emphasis for the 2024-25 program is around engaging under-16 athletes primarily with some developmental opportunities for under-14s. To be eligible for an IAS Basketball scholarship athletes must:
- Reside within the Illawarra Region i.e. Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Wingecarribee or Wollongong local government areas
- Be a registered member with Basketball NSW through a recognised Association within the Illawarra region
- Be available for selection in an association based within the IAS local government area. i.e. make yourself available for association trials and representative programs
- Be competing in the U14 – U16 age groups in BNSW Leagues or sanctioned events
- Athletes must be able to play in BNSW endorsed competition in U14 or U16 age group in 2025.
- Be born in 2010, 2011 or 2012 or 2013.
The IAS program is part of the BNSW athlete pathway and includes athletes in the Developing Athlete Program (DAP) and State Performance Plan (SPP). For further clarity, athletes who are selected to the State Performance Plan (SPP) are eligible for the IAS program.
