Throughout January, Goulburn has been hosting the National Indoor Hockey Championships bringing the best Indoor Hockey players from each state to the tournament. Current IAS Scholarship holders, Imogen Fowles and Charli Corbin got the competition underway representing the Under 15 NSW Girls team from 8-12 January 2019. The NSW U/15 Girls had a very strong tournament finishing with a Silver Medal, after going through undefeated and convincingly defeating many other states. Imogen was named Player of the Match against WA and scored 3 penalty corners and 1 field goal during the competition. Imogen and Charli’s NSW team faced QLD Maroon in a thrilling Gold Medal Match, unfortunately going down 0-1 in a shoot-out after being level 2-2 at full time.
Ella Gibson, past IAS Athlete and 2018 IAS Hockey Athlete of the Year, represented the Under 18 NSW Girls team in the U/18s National Championships from 13-17 January 2019. Ella had a strong Championship scoring 2 field goals against Tasmania and assisting the team in remaining undefeated across the tournament. The NSW U/18s convincingly beat WA in the Gold Medal match 7-2 to become National Champions!
IAS Alumni continued to contribute to the NSW success at Nationals with both the NSW Under 21 Men’s and Women’s Teams having successful tournaments and winning the Gold Medal matches! The U/21 teams boasted a strong cohort of past IAS athletes including Joshua Mayo (C), Callum Mackay, Thomas Miotto, William Orth, Daniel Jolliffe, Jack Donovan and Thomas David in the Men’s side and Keeleigh McCauley, Maddi Smith and Kelsey Hughes in the Women’s. The NSW representatives didn’t stop there with our Head Hockey Coach, Alex Mackay winning Gold for the NSW Open Men’s team following a very successful campaign from 23-26 January 2019 and winning against ACT 4-3 in the Gold Medal Match.
