Day 2 of the 2025 Your Local Club Academy Games saw our IAS athletes continue to compete in golf, netball, basketball, and volleyball, and commence their campaign in hockey.
In the golf event, Day 2 was the final round of stroke play with Jaidon Kyriacou aka “The Iceman” coming up clutch!
After a minor stumble on the front nine with bogeys on 1, 5 and 6, Jaidon put on a ball striking clinic, peeling off birdies on 13 and 17, shooting 1 under par on the back nine to claim his maiden victory by 1 stroke!
Congratulations Jaidon!
Charlie Kerr had a solid showing driving and putting well again today to finish in the top 10.
Meanwhile in the girls division, Sage Laird again struck the ball very nicely, just couldn’t get enough putts to find the bottom of the cup to make any ground up on the leaders, but did enough to hang onto 3rd place.
Well done to all the IAS golfers on a successful tournament and a huge congratulations again to the 2025 Academy Games Boys Champion Jaidon Kyriacou!
Best of luck in the match play tomorrow!
In the basketball competition, the IAS boys team went through Day 2 undefeated to end up at the top of Pool A .
The first game against Hunter Academy of Sport was a 67-46 win, the second game against South West Sydney Academy of Sport was a 83-36 result, with the final game of the day providing a win for the IAS boys over Northern Inland Academy of Sport 79-46.
The IAS girls have a younger squad and weren’t as lucky as the boys, being defeated by Northern Inland Academy of Sport 48-41, Hunter Academy of Sport 66-22 and in the playoff against South East Sports Academy, going down again by 74-57.
Both IAS basketball teams will have tough games on Day 3 – best of luck to the IAS basketball squad!
The IAS hockey girls had a lot of fun on Day 2, many memories were made and the girls fought with determination and passion as a team.
Although unlucky to not be able to field an entire team, the girls were able to welcome other players from other NSW Regional Academies where new friendships were made and comradery shone.
With each game played, the IAS hockey girls were brought closer together as a team.
The IAS boys hockey team started with a tight contest against Hunter Academy of Sport, some sharp passing and fine finishing led to a comfortable 4-0 win.
Despite varying shapes and playing styles presented to the team throughout the matches, the IAS boys hockey team managed to continue their development and remain undefeated – with a 2-1 victory against Northern Inland Academy of Sport and a 4-0 win against Southern Sports Academy.
Further hockey round matches will be played on Day 3 and we wish our hockey teams well.
The IAS volleyball girls had 3 losses and 3 draws throughout the day.
The team is very young and building together well and improving with each match.
The IAS volleyball girls will play Hunter Academy of Sport in the bronze medal match, having previously drawn twice against them.
The IAS volleyball boys lost to a strong South West Sydney Academy of Sport team on Day 1, and won two solid games on Day 2 against Hunter Academy of Sport and Western Sydney Academy of Sport.
The team drew with the second South West Sydney Academy of Sport team, as the squad rotated players and experimented with the line up.
The IAS volleyball boys are finding their confidence and will play off in a huge gold medal match on Day 3.
The IAS volleyball coaches and managers are very proud of how all the players in the boys and girls squads are playing and the growth that’s happening.
Bring on Day 3!
