The Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) seeks residents of the Kiama and Shoalhaven Local Government Areas (LGA’s) to form the membership of the Academy by filling voluntary roles of Community Members.
ABOUT US
Established in 1985, the IAS is a not-for profit, community organisation that exists to provide talented athletes of the Illawarra the maximum opportunity for holistic success and development through excellence in athlete programs and associated support services.
Approximately 300 scholarships are offered annually to pre-elite athletes aged 12 – 18 across 11 sporting programs.

THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS
Seven (7) Community Members, comprising three (3) residents of the City of Wollongong and one resident of each of the Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Kiama, and Wingecarribee LGA’s form an integral part of the IAS Membership.
Community Members elect the IAS Board of Directors, which has the responsibility of controlling and managing the affairs of the IAS.
To be eligible for election as a Community Member, one must be at least 18 years of age and reside within one of the abovementioned LGA’s, noting we are currently seeking residents of Kiama and Shoalhaven at this time.
Community Members are expected to attend at least three (3) IAS Member meetings annually and attend various IAS functions.
The membership of each Community Member expires after four (4) years from the date of their election.

The IAS encourages eligible residents that can:
1) Contribute to shaping the culture, strategic focus, governance, and/or financial sustainability of the IAS;
2) Proactively advocate for the IAS within the Illawarra; and
3) Apply your varied experience and skill set to guide the IAS through its next exciting phase.

Express your interest as a Community Member by completing the Expression of Interest Form and submitting a covering letter noting your qualifications, skills, and experience either via the form or via email to ceo@ias.org.au
Expressions of interest open Wednesday, 4 October 2023 and close 5pm Tuesday, 31 October 2023.
