The Illawarra Academy of Sport is excited to announce a new education and career development opportunity for current and former IAS athletes through an exclusive partnership with TAFE NSW Sport. Expressions of Interest are now open for the Statement of Attainment in Applied Sport Performance Analysis & Training Design, a nationally recognised program designed to help athletes build practical skills and explore career pathways within the sport, fitness, and performance industries.

This unique program has been developed specifically for the IAS community and provides participants with the opportunity to gain industry-relevant knowledge while continuing their sporting and personal development.

Athletes develop a unique understanding of training, performance, preparation, and physical wellbeing. This course builds on that foundation, equipping participants with formal qualifications and practical skills that can be applied across the sport and fitness sectors.

Participants will complete four nationally recognised units of competency:

  • SISFFIT032 – Complete pre-exercise screening and service orientation
  • SISFFIT033 – Complete client fitness assessments
  • SISFFIT040 – Develop and instruct gym-based exercise programs for individual clients
  • SISFFIT047 – Use anatomy and physiology knowledge to support safe and effective exercise
Students who successfully complete these units may also be eligible to apply for credit recognition towards future qualifications, providing a valuable stepping stone for further study and career progression.

What You’ll Learn

The program will equip participants with practical, industry-aligned skills, including:

  • Conducting pre-exercise screening and identifying health risks.
  • Completing fitness and functional assessments.
  • Designing gym-based exercise programs tailored to individual goals and capabilities.
  • Monitoring and reviewing client progress.
  • Applying anatomy and physiology knowledge to support safe and effective exercise delivery.

These competencies are highly relevant for athletes considering future careers in fitness, coaching, strength and conditioning, sport performance, and broader health and wellbeing industries.
