The 2024 Your Local Club Academy Games kicked off with a bang yesterday, with IAS athletes competing across the golf, hockey, volleyball and basketball events.

The Games Opening Ceremony was a great success; the athletes’ march made particularly special this year by the inclusion of an traditional Indigenous smoking ceremony. It was announced during proceedings that the YLC Academy Games will move to Tamworth in 2025!

After Round 1 of the golf, we have Charlie Kerr the best of the boys at +4, sitting at tied 6th overall. In the girls’ event, Sage Laird shot a great score of +7 to be in a tie for second. With great conditions set for Round 2, our golf athletes are looking forward to scoring low tomorrow.

The girls’ hockey squad came out on top in their first game against Sydney Metro Academy with a 1-0 victory, followed by a tight match in the boys’ competition which saw the IAS draw 0-0 with Southern Sports Academy.

IAS volleyball boys claimed a win over the North Coast Academy of Sport 3 sets to 0, before unfortunately later losing 3-0 in a game against the South West Sydney Academy of Sport.

Our basketball girls very narrowly missed out on a win in a close game against the Western Region Academy of Sport (WRAS), finishing 49-51. In an equally tough match, the boys later came out on  top against WRAS with 55 points to 53 thanks to Chayce Te Nana’s game-winning shot.

An incredible performance from Team IAS, and we’re just getting started!
