It’s been a big few weeks for our Surf Life Saving Athletes, with the Surf Life Saving Australia Interstates held at Alexandra Headland, Qld on 24 January 2020 and the Surf Life Saving NSW Country Championships at Kingscliff Beach, NSW held from 1-2 February 2020.
Across the two events, the BluescopeWIN Lonestar athletes returned home with a combined six National medals and seventeen NSW Country medals.
Chelsea Jones (NSW) and Kirra Dale (NSW Country proved their places in the NSW teams by making the finals in their events at the Surf Life Saving Australia Interstates. Chelsea showed her strength by stealing gold in the Team Swim and Cameron Relay, gaining silver in Board Rescue and the Ironwoman, and bronze in the Swim and Run Swim Run. Her fantastic results assisted NSW in winning the carnival for the third consecutive year.
Montana Doubell led the way for Warilla Barrack Point SLSC at the Surf Life Saving NSW Country Championships, taking 4 gold in the U13 Ironwoman, U13 1km Beach Run, U13 Mixed Surf Teams and U13 Mixed Board Relay, and making the final in the U13 Surf Relay and Beach Race.
Kirra Dale (Warilla Barrack Point SLSC) followed suit taking home a swag of medals, with 1st in the U17 Beach Sprint, 2nd in Open Sprint, U17 Beach Relay, Open Beach Flags, and 3rd in U17 Beach Flags and making the final in the Mixed Surf Teams, U17 Surf Race, U17 Taplin Race, U17 2km Beach Run and U19 Female Double Ski.
Mischa Boniface (Kiama Downs SLSC) won gold in the U14 Beach Flags and silver in the U14 Beach Sprint.
IAS AFL Girls athlete Ivy Halliway (Warilla Barrack Point SLSC) also had a successful weekend winning gold in the U15 Surf Race, U15 Board Rescue, U15 Cameron Relay and U15 Board Rescue, and took bronze in the U15 Ironwoman and Board Race.
The athletes will now continue to build in preparation for the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. ‘Aussies’ hosts representatives from over 300 Surf Life Saving clubs from around Australia and will be held on the Gold Coast from 18-26 April 2020.
