The Illawarra Academy of Sport Rugby Sevens Squads travelled to Tathra over the weekend to compete in the ACT Brumbies supported South Coast 7’s Tournament in preparation for the upcoming ClubsNSW Academy Games.

The IAS entered two teams into the newly established tournament and performed extremely well amidst a highly talented pool from the ACT and surrounding areas.

The Girls squad narrowly missed out on claiming the gold medal after going to Bega Valley High School in the final. The boys were not to be out done winning the plate competition after several strong performances.

IAS Rugby Sevens Head Coach, Tony Leader-Smith expressed is satisfaction with the squad’s performances across the tournament saying “the squads competed really well in what was a strong competition”

“It was great to see the improvement throughout the tournament which will provide a strong foundation for the upcoming ClubsNSW Academy games” added Leader-Smith

Tessa Good received recognition for her consistent performances by being awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the Girls division.

Rugby Sevens is the fastest growing sport in Australia and in 2016 rejoined the Olympic Program at the Rio Games.
