Netballers from the Illawarra Academy of Sport had the opportunity to get up close and personal with netball’s ultimate prize – the Netball World Cup – when it stopped by the NSW NIB Games which was hosted by the Hunter Academy of Sport on Wednesday 8 July. With the Netball World Cup in Sydney from Friday 7 – 16 August 2015 (www.nwc2015.com.au ) in Sydney Olympic Park the Trophy Tour is a showcase of the sport’s prize and a celebration of the event. As a part of the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015’s Official Trophy Tour, the Tour stopped off at the NSW NIB Games as a part of the its plan to cover over 14,500 kilometres in four-months, giving over 100,000 netballers the opportunity to get up close to netball’s most prestigious prize. As well as having their photo taken with the Trophy, they had the chance to meet Nettie – the official mascot of NWC2015, send a postcard message to the Diamonds, enjoy the Trophy Tour playlist and the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and giveaways thanks to NWC2015. Kath Tetley, GM of Marketing, Media, Community and Legacy, says that the Trophy Tour is all about community and a critical part of the Netball World Cup fan experience as the event (Friday 7 – 16 August) draws nearer. “We have been over-whelmed by the passionate support we have received from netballers, netball friends and community when we arrive with the Netball World Cup Trophy Tour.” “The Trophy Tour is all about our netball family. We have been invited to netball Clubs and Associations all over Australia – we only wish we had more hours in the day – or perhaps a teleporter could help us to see everyone before our event arrives! Our netball family is huge and our role is to give as many netballers the chance experience the Trophy Tour.” The Netball World Cup is returning to Australian shores for the first time in 24 years, and will be held in Sydney with the Opening Day on Friday 7, with competition for ten consecutive days through to the Gold Medal match which will take place at Allphones Arena on Sunday 16 August 2015. Featuring 192 of the world’s best netballers, taking the court for 64 Netball World Cup matches this will be an international event not to be missed. Six IAS Netballers will also get the opportunity to be Field of Play Assistants (Ball Kids) after being selected from a ballot of eligible Regional Academies of Sport Netball Athletes.
