The Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) marked a significant milestone at its Annual General Meeting held on Monday, 10 November 2025, at the Shellharbour Civic Centre, celebrating 40 years of nurturing local sporting talent.
Members received the 2025 Annual Report, which highlighted the Academy’s continued commitment to supporting emerging athletes across a wide range of sporting disciplines throughout the region.
Director and Chair of the Risk, Finance and Audit Committee, Mr. Jonathan Seller, reported a clean audit to the members and reaffirmed the Academy’s strong financial position.
CEO Salv Carmusciano announced the nominated representatives of the Academies’ Foundation Members and introduced the newly elected community representatives who will contribute to the governance of the IAS.
The AGM concluded with the election of Mr. Ian Campbell, Wingecarribee Shire community representative, as Vice-President. Joining the Board as Ordinary Directors are Ms. Jessie Pill, Ms. Katherine Baker, and IAS alumni Mr. Joshua Kersten, Mr. Jordan Matthews, and Mr. Matthew Gigliotti.
IAS President Ms. Sharon Wingate paid heartfelt tribute to retiring Directors Mr. Canio Fierravanti and Mr. Grant Hughes. Mr. Fierravanti served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wollongong’s nominated representative since 2014 and served as a Director for the past nine years. Mr. Hughes was an IAS scholarship holder and was elected as the Wollongong community representative in 2017. He commenced as a Director in 2018, before being elected as the IAS Vice-President in 2023. Ms. Wingate acknowledged the incredible contribution both men made to the organisation during their tenures.
