The Illawarra Academy of Sport and our long-term major partner, the Illawarra Credit Union, are proud to announce a new Athlete of the Month initiative.
Each month during the scholarship year, one athlete will be awarded $100, courtesy of the Illawarra Credit Union. A new winner will be announced every month as part of this joint initiative.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport will put a call out for nominations each month for athletes who have displayed the IAS values of commitment, citizenship, empowerment, integrity and excellence, and who have shown outstanding athletic performance over the past month.
Nominations can come from athletes, parents, coaches, community members etc and the nominees will be discussed at an IAS team meeting, with the winner announced via the Illawarra Academy of Sport and Illawarra Credit Union social media platforms soon after.
Illawarra Academy of Sport CEO Salv Carmusciano said the Athlete of the Month campaign is a great way to celebrate the success of our athletes and he thanked the Illawarra Credit Union for their contribution.
“I am pleased to announce that the Athlete of the Month initiative is officially underway and I would like to thank the Illawarra Credit Union for supporting the campaign and for their long-term partnership with the Illawarra Academy of Sport,” Carmusciano said.
“The Athlete of the Month campaign will provide a platform for both the Illawarra Academy of Sport and the Illawarra Credit Union to celebrate our athletes and support them on their journey towards becoming a professional athlete.”
Illawarra Credit Union CEO Anthony Perkiss agreed and said he is looking forward to the campaign getting underway.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Illawarra Academy of Sport in recognising the Athlete of the Month, a celebration of not only outstanding athletic performance, but also the core values of commitment, citizenship, empowerment, integrity, and excellence,” Perkiss said.
“These young athletes inspire us with their dedication and resilience, and we are proud to support them as they navigate the challenges of their sporting journeys.
“It’s an honour to acknowledge their achievements and the remarkable role the Illawarra Academy of Sport plays in fostering such admirable values in our future champions.”
Nominations are currently open for the Athlete of the Month and will close on November 25, with the winner announced shortly after. Nominations can be sent to comms@ias.org.au
