SIX academies from across the state battled it out in a fierce hockey competition over the weekend at the 2016 ClubsNSW Academy Games. Both the girls and boys competitions showcased their skills as the adrenalin ran high with several nail biting matches. The round robin tournament in both the boys and girls divisions was fiercely competitive, with each of the six academies in contention over the course of the whole weekend. The IAS Southern Phone Hockey squads were without a number of players who were on representative duty however still managed to be competitive across the weekend. It has become customary for a Merit Team to be selected from the Games. The IAS squad had two athletes selected into this squad being Samara Miotto & Heyden Welsh. Additionally, Hockey NSW has also selected six athletes from across the competition to participate in the upcoming Accelerated Athlete Program (AAP) Camp being held at Sydney Olympic Park on April 21-22 and possible inclusion in the remainder of the AAP for 2016 and selection in the NSW U18 Squad. IAS Athlete Thomas Dolby was one of the six players selected.
