Seven IAS Cycling program athletes travelled to Dunc Grey Velodrome at Sydney last weekend (January 23rd & 24th) to contest the NSW Junior Track Championships. In the 15 women’s age division Amelia Trkulja and Tahlia Dole competed in six track disciplines over the weekend recording personal best times in the time trial, Individual pursuit and the Flying 200 events with the highlight for Tahila being 5th place in the Sprint & Amelia gaining podium position with a bronze medal in the Kieran. Tahlia & Amelia competed at a very high level and should be very proud of their results. In the 15 men’s Division Kirk Cleaven returned to the track after a huge season of BMX and did not disappoint achieving excellent results in the Individual Time Trial, Standing Lap and the sprint. Kirk claimed the NSW State Championship Gold medal in the Standing Lap and the sprint and took the silver medal in the time trial. Kirk competed at a high level against strong competition and is demonstrating an excellent proficiency for the track sprint events. In the 17 men’s division Luke Britton, Sam Estelle, Mitch Wright & Zac Marshall competed in all events over the weekend. All the athletes posted personal best times in all events with Mitch defending his Individual Pursuit state champion title in a blistering time of 2:16 and also claiming silver medals in the individual time trial, and scratch race, and bronze in the Kieran event. Zac also performed well over the weekend claiming the Gold State Champion medal in the Kieran, Bronze in the sprint and 4th in the Scratch race. Mitch and Zac combined in the last event of the Championships the Madison team event and took the gold medal and State Championship in that event. Sam and Luke both raced at the highest level over the weekend and posted massive personal best times in all events. Kirk, Mitchell and Zac have been selected in the NSW Junior Track Team to compete at the Cycling Australia Junior Track Championships in Launceston, Tasmania in late February 2016. Also good luck to Chloe Heffernan and Chelsea Oaten who have been selected to represent NSW at the Cycling Australia Under 19s and senior Track Cycling Championships in Adelaide commencing 3 February 2016
