IAS Cycling Athlete perform at Nationals The IAS had 5 athletes represent NSW at the Australian National Junior Track Championship in Melbourne last weekend. Chelsea Oaten rode very well posting PB’s in Sprint Qualifying & Individual Time Trial. She also rode very well in the sprint to ride in Bronze medal final & won the national Championship in the Team Sprint partnering Natasha Mullaney in NSW Team One. A very special moment for the ladies and their families. Chelsea’s Reselts: Gold medal & national Champion Team Sprint with Natasha Mullaney (NSW) 4th Individual Time Trial (PB) Bronze Medal Sprint (3rd) PB in qualifying 5th Kieran Final 2nd Silver medal Team Pursuit (NSW) Mitchell Wright as always competed at the highest level and rode well in the points race and the individual pursuit. He was the engine for the NSW Team Pursuit Team and was unlucky not to medal in the scratch race due to an race incident in the closing laps of the race. Being a first year 17 men’s competitor Mitchell will be very competitive all going well at next year’s championships. Mitchell’s Results: 2nd Silver medal Points Race 4th Individual Pursuit 6th Scratch Race 3rd Bronze medal Team Pursuit (NSW Team) 8th Team Sprint (NSW Team 2) Chloe Heffernan also rode very well over the course of the championships claiming the bronze medal in the points race and was the engine of the NSW Teal Pursuit team. She was unlucky to be involved in a race accident in the closing stages of the scratch race which resulted in her being hospitalised. She required to surgery on Sunday to repair a damaged finger but is otherwise ok except for bumps and bruises. Chloe was elected by her peers and team staff as girls captain of the NSW Team and did an excellent job of leading the team and mentoring younger and newer members of the team. She was a credit to her family, the Academy and NSW in the way she conducted herself in competition and in her leadership of the team. Chloe’s Results: 2nd Silver Medal Team Pursuit (NSW Team) 3rd Bronze medal Points Race 5th Individual Pursuit 17th Scratch Race Kirk Cleaven was one of the youngest members of the team and rode well in all events especially the Individual Time Trial claiming the bronze medal. Kirk will continue to improve and will be very competitive all going well at next year’s championships as an 15 men’s competitor. Kirk’s Results: 3rd bronze medal Individual Time Trial 8th Sprint 14th Individual Pursuit (PB) Zachary Marshall rode consistently over the championships, recorded a PB in tine trial, and was a member of the NSW Team Pursuit Team which claimed the Bronze medal. Also being a first year competitor Zac, all going well, will again be competitive in the Championships next year. Zac’s Results: 3rd Bronze medal Team Pursuit (NSW Team) 17th Individual Time Trial (PB) 8th Points Score 12th Individual Pursuit 14th Sprint 8th Team Sprint Overall the IAS athletes conducted themselves professionally and represented their families, Academy and State with pride.
