
The Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS), an official Olympic Training Centre, is now inviting Expressions of Interest for Community Members. IAS supports athlete development across the Illawarra, providing pathways for athletes to reach their full potential through expert coaching and high-performance programs. Many of our athletes have gone on to forge successful professional sporting careers, including represent Australia, and competing in Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Who We’re Looking For:
Residents of the Wollongong and Wingecarribee local government areas are encouraged to apply. In particular, we would like to hear from those who have legal qualifications. or are skilled in advocacy and lobbying, grants and sponsorship, or public relations. Community Members support IAS’s strategic direction, advocate for the Academy in the community, and may be asked to contribute their skills and expertise to initiatives outside the normal meeting or committee cycle.
As a Community Member, you will:
- Elect the IAS Board of Directors, responsible for overseeing the Academy’s operations
- Promote and advocate for IAS objectives
- Represent IAS at functions and events as required
- Apply your skills and expertise to support IAS initiatives
Commitment:
- Attend at least three general meetings annually
- Contribute your skills and expertise to sub-committees, projects or initiatives as required
Eligibility:
- At least 18 years of age
- Reside in the Wollongong or Wingecarribee LGAs
- Hold or be willing to obtain a valid Working With Children Check
Positions Available:
- Two positions for Wollongong
- One position for Wingecarribee
