The IAS Academy came away from the Bathurst Junior Masters with some fantastic results. The Illawarra Academy of Sport have claimed honours in the Regional Academies of Sport Team Challenge at the recent Peter O’Malley Junior Masters tournament held in Bathurst over the weekend. IAS Coaching Coordinator and JNJG South Coast Territory Manager, Luke Grinham expressed delight in the efforts of the IAS team, “it was a fantastic performance over the two day event and a just reward for the hard work these young athletes have been putting into their training” adding that “the format for the challenge provides an opportunity for all athletes to contribute to the teams outcome” In teams of four, the best two scratch scores and the best nett score are accumulated each day and the team with the lowest score is awarded the winner. IAS golfer Jackson Hall did the Bathurst Double, claiming the 14/15 Years Division with rounds of 73 and 75 (+5 over the 36-hole event) to take out the division by 3 strokes, whilst also being a part of the winning Illawarra Academy of Sport Team in the JNJG Academy Challenge. Tom Heaton finished 3rd in the same division 4 strokes behind Hall. Matthew Luke also had a great result finishing in 2nd place in the nett division of the 16 years and over division with two consistent rounds of 73. Danni Vasquez was also in winning form at this years event taking out the 16 years and over event by a strong 7 shots after rounds of 74,78. In the same division Sarah Johnson was victorious in the nett section of the event winning on a count back. This shows how strong the IAS Athletes are. Both the Men and Women squads are very competitive in every event that they have participated in 2016.
