Illawarra Academy of Sport joined forces with Healthy Cities Illawarra to deliver a ‘Come and Try Sport’ School Holiday Program at Calderwood District Park on Tuesday 19 January 2021.
The Calderwood Valley Seedling Fund grant allowed Healthy Cities to provide the holiday activity free of charge to children aged 7-12 years old from the 2527 postcode. The IAS athletes took on the role of coaching the participants, letting the kids have a taste of Athletics, Water Polo, AFL, Netball and Hockey.
IAS athletes organised sessions of drills and skills, teaching the children basic fundamentals for their sport. They then got to put the skills into practice through a variety of fun mini games. The participants were enthusiastic to give everything, we might have even found some future IAS stars!
It was a great day encouraging active lifestyles and providing lots of smiles and holiday fun!
