Seven Illawarra Academy of Sport Cycling Program athletes travelled to Sydney on the weekend of 30 January 2015 to compete in the NSW Junior Track Cycling Championships at Dunc Gray Velodrome. The athletes participated in five events over three days battling for medals & selection in the NSW Junior team to compete at the National Junior Track Championships in late February 2015. In the Under 15 men’s category Kirk Cleveland podium in the Standing Lap time trial (Silver Medal), 500 metre Individual Time Trial (Bronze Medal) and Sprint (Silver medal). Luke Britten and Sam Estelle also competed in the age group and posted personal best times and results across all five events. In the Under 17 Women’s Category Chelsea Oaten was in outstanding form securing silver medals in the Standing Lap, Individual Time Trials and the sprint. Chelsea also podium with a bronze medal in the scratch race and rode a personal best in the Individual pursuit placing 5th in that event. Chloe Heffernan was also in very good form and rode consistently across all disciplines, and was outstanding in the Individual Pursuit winning the NSW State Championship (Gold medal) in that event. The Under 17 Men’s Category was a very competitive age group with in excess of 30 riders competing over all five events. Illawarra Academy of Sport Athlete of the year, 2014, Mitchell Wright was in scintillating form, and secured the NSW State Championship Gold Medals in the Individual Pursuit and the Scratch Race. IAS team mate Zac Marshall also rode consistently over the championships and secured bronze medals in the 500 Metre Individual Time Trial and Individual Pursuit, and also came 4th in the Scratch Race. Chloe Heffernan, Chelsea Oaten, Kirk Cleveland, Mitchell Wright and Zachary Marshall have been selected in the NSW Junior Track Team to compete at the Cycling Australia National Junior Track Championships to be held at the Disc Velodrome at Melbourne, Victoria, between 25 and the 28 of February 2015.
