Illawarra Academy of Sports scholarship athletes are back in full training after the Christmas and New Year break. The Academy’s recently developed Online Education Platform – iLearn, is now proving its worth with all athletes about to embark on the updated Sports Leadership Program.
The 2017 Sports Leadership Program has been designed, in collaboration with IAS Partner, Big Fat Smile, to assist young talented athletes, to understand the importance of Leadership, styles of Leadership and strategies to improve Leadership within a sporting context.
According to the Leadership Institute – “Leadership is the art of leading others to deliberately create a result that wouldn’t have happened otherwise”.
The IAS annually supports more than 180 local athletes in pursing sporting ambitions where the difference between ‘making it’ and ‘missing it’ can be one hundredths of a second, one centimeter, or in some cases the individual’s leadership capabilities.
“Understanding leadership and the early development of leadership qualities provides a point of difference for young aspiring athletes” IAS General Manager Shannon Fraser said.
The Academy has provided scholarship athletes access to both online and face-to-face workshop education covering module topics including sports nutrition, media awareness, performance psychology, time management, goal setting, drugs in sport, public speaking and mental health.
