Malia and Parri

For 2020/21, the BluescopeWIN Lonestar program welcomes a contingent of seven talented volleyball athletes. Starting their IAS Scholarship with a bang, six of the athletes attended the Northern Beaches Volleyball Camp from 6-8 October and competed in the Volleyball NSW Junior Beach Volleyball Tournament on Friday 9 October

Throughout the three-day camp the athletes participated in various skill and strategy sessions, improving their offence and defence, game craft, wind strategies and utilisation of video analysis. A highlight for the players was the opportunity to be coached by Olympic gold medalist, Kerri Pottharst

At the completion of the Camp, Volleyball NSW hosted the first Junior Beach Volleyball Tournament of the 2020/21 beach season. It was a gorgeous day at Manly Beach, providing a fantastic start to the six-round event, all leading up to the NSW Junior Championships in April 2021.

All six of the IAS players competing came home with a medal. Congratulations to;

  • Mireille Smith – Gold U14/U15 Girls
  • Malia Barrele & Parri Barrele – Silver U18 Girls
  • Alexandria Smith – Silver U16 Girls
  • Kaia Brienen – Bronze U18 Girls
  • Adax Brienen – Bronze U15/U16 Boys

Looking forward to the year ahead for these skilled athletes!
