The IAS Athletes with a Disability (AWD) squad had a stellar year, collecting a variety of NSW and Australian medals.
Congratulations to Telaya Blacksmith on winning the Brett Stibners Award for 2020-21 AWD Athlete of the Year, proudly supported by MoneyQuest Wollongong!
The 2021 AWD Athlete of the Year, Telaya Blacksmith is a talented athlete, excelling in both athletics and AFL.
Telaya broke three Australian T20 records at the Australian Track & Field Championships. She put on fantastic performances in the U15 Girls Para National events, to win gold in long jump, silver in the 200m, and bronze in the 100m. She also won gold in all three events at the Little Athletics State Championships and the NSW Junior Athletics Championships.
The talented 13-year-old was a member of the Sydney Swans Academy. She represented the NSW Combined High Schools Under 15s at the NSW All Schools Championships.
“Telaya is one to watch for the future, being a huge talent in both athletics and AFL,” said AWD Head Coach, Kurt Freeme.
The Brett Stibners Award runner-up was talented swimmer, Jarred Dyer. Jarred won gold in the 50m Butterfly and silver in the 50m Backstroke at the Australian Swimming Championships and was selected into the Swimming NSW Para Potential Squad.
