The IAS Rugby 7s Athletes travelled to Lake Macquarie last Saturday to compete in the NSW Youth Sevens Development Carnival. Even with a 5.45am start the athletes performed to their very best, displayed excellent sportsmanship and wore their IAS jerseys with pride. The girls team competed against 5 other regions, Rikeya Horne showed her speed and agility to score several tries over the day, while Majenta Collis and Maddison Weatherall displayed strength and courage making try saving tackles. Stephanie Ball displayed a great improvement in her skills and knowledge of the game. While the boys only had one team to complete against, they also displayed all the skills and techniques that are part of the Rugby 7s game. All athletes showed they have improved in their skills and techniques since the induction of the program, with the assistance of coach Tony Leeder-Smith. Rugby New South Wales talent scouts were present on the day and selected several IAS athletes to participate in the Youth Development Program. Congratulations to Rikeya Horne, Majenta Collis, Stephanie Ball, Maddison Weatherall, Keeley Davis and Reece Apollo on your selection and best of luck at these camps.
