IAS Graduate and Shoalhaven Heads hockey star Kyah Gray will have the massive honour of leading the Australian women’s indoor hockey team. The 21-year-old will captain her country in the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Durban, South Africa from December 15 to 18. “Being named in an Australian team is an amazing achievement of which I am very proud, but to be named captain is something even more special and adds extra responsibility both on and off the field,” Gray said. Gray has been a regular in the Australian women’s indoor hockey team recently and has learnt from each experience with the team. “At Australian Nationals over the past three years, the coaches and managers have been at the open women’s and under 21s national championships, looking at players,” she said. “Playing in the Indoor World Cup (In Germany in February) against the best countries in the world was an amazing experience. “The speed, skill and intensity of the games was like nothing I have experienced before. “I learnt to stay composed under pressure and the professionalism shown by the players in these teams is something I have carried into my own game.” The second-year veterinary science student the University of Sydney, expects this tournament to present a tough challenge for her team. “We have played South Africa before and it was quite close, with the Australian team winning some games and the South Africans winning others,” Gray said. The team will face Namibia, South Africa and the US.
