The Mayor of Shellharbour City Council, Cr. Marianne Saliba officially recognised the Academy Scholarship holders from the Shellharbour Council area at a reception held in the Oak Flats Community Centre last Thursday 4th August 2017.
Talented Basketballer Zoe Roulston responded on behalf of all athletes in thanking Mayor Saliba, the IAS and their staff and explained how the Academy has assisted her in pushing herself further in pursuit of higher honours.
“The Academy has provided me the opportunity to work with the best coaches and compete against the best girls in the region”
The Academy has a close relationship with all five Illawarra Councils, Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Wingecarribee and Wollongong, and the receptions are a strong demonstration of the links between the IAS and local government in the region.
The Illawarra has a rich history in developing and elevating athletes to higher representative honours, with the Academy a significant vehicle in the process. Over three decades, the IAS has supported more than 5500 young people from across the region in their pursuit of sporting excellence.
The IAS welcome nominations for the following 2018 Sports Program Scholarships; Basketball, Cycling (Now including BMX), Golf, Hockey, Netball, Rugby 7’s, Surfing, Tenpin Bowling and Triathlon, as well as non-sport specific LoneStar Program and Athletes with a Disability Program.
