Swimming NSW hosted the NSW Country Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre from 22-24 February 2019. The IAS was well represented at the event with a strong contingent of BluescopeWIN LoneStar athletes competing, including Talika Irvine, Zara Sharman, Jade van Duin, Bailey Crehan, Mia Parker, Clint Ridding, Omar Matar, Tarren Dyer and Jarrod Dyer. All athletes produced excellent performances and came away with fantastic results. The IAS Swimmers finished with a combined total of 19 Medals, including 5 Gold Medals!
IAS Athlete highlights over the Country Championships included:
Zara Sharman (Corrimal) contested the Women’s Opens (17 & Over) and came away with outstanding results in the strong open category, placing:
- 1st in 200m Freestyle
- 1st in 400m Freestyle
- 1st in 800m Freestyle
- 2nd in 1500m Freestyle
- 2nd in 200m Fly
- 3rd in 100m Freestyle
- 4th in 50m Freestyle
Talika Irvine (pictured) competed in the Women’s 12&U for Bay & Basin and placed:
- 1st place 200m Backstroke (PB by 5.74 secs)
- 2nd place 200m Individual Medley (PB by 4.44 secs)
- 3rd place 100m Backstroke (PB by 2.07 secs)
- 3rd place 200m Freestyle (PB by 2.19 secs)
- 6th place 200m Breaststroke
- 8th place 100m Breaststroke
Jade van Duin entered the Women’s 14&U representing Wests Illawarra and placed:
- 2nd in 100m Breaststroke
- 2nd in 200m Breaststroke
- 7th in 50m Breaststroke (Opens)
- Also entered: 100m Free, 200m Free
Bailey Crehan (Wests Illawarra) competed in 10 events in Men’s 16&U and achieved the following places:
- 2nd in 200m Breaststroke
- 3rd in 100m Breaststroke
- 6th in 400m Individual Medley
- 7th in 200m Individual Medley
- Other events competed in: 200m Fly, 200m Free, 200m Back, 100m Back, 100m Free, 50m Free
Jarrod Dyer competed in the Open AWD events and produced amazing results:
- 1st in 50m Breaststroke
- 2nd in 50m Freestyle
- 2n in 50m Fly
- 2nd in 50m Backstroke
Tarren Dyer also competed in the Open AWD category and placed:
- 2nd in 50m Breaststoke
