15-year-old, Kieran Woolley represented Australia at the Park Skateboarding World Championships held at the Vans Skatepark, São Paulo, Brazil from 9-15 September 2019.
The event was not only the prestigious World Championships but doubled as the most important event in season one of the Olympic Qualification process. Vans Skatepark, São Paulo hosted 160 skateboarders representing 32 nations, all vying to earn valuable Olympic qualification points. Skaters accumulate points at registered events leading into Tokyo 2020 where the top 20 skaters will be selected to compete.
After skating through the Global Qualifiers and Quarter Finals, Kieran made his way into the 20-man Semi-Finals.
“The semi-finals were rad, such a high level of competition and everybody was throwing down,” Woolley said.
Kieran’s strong run placed him 16th in the World, a mere two points off making the final and five points off the winner. Click here to view Kieran’s semi-final run.
Topping off this great achievement, Kieran secured a World Ranking of 20th and an Olympic ranking of 11th – well within the 20-skater quota for the inaugural Olympic skateboarding competition. Kieran looks to retain this ranking into the next season of qualification, with the prospect of heading to Tokyo looking high for the Kiama skater.
Kieran now draws his focus towards the upcoming Santa Cruz Australian Tour starting next week, before heading back to Brazil in late October.
