TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR TRIATHLON CAREER
The IAS Triathlon Program is designed to support the developmental needs of the regions young talented triathletes through industry leading high-performance sport development programs. Scholarships are offered for a 12-month period commencing in October and concluding in September. However, there is a heavier focus on the program from October through to Your Local Club Academy Games in April.
OUR PROGRAM PROVIDES TRAINING, COACHING AND COMPETITION WITH A VIEW TO:
- Develop athletes’ fundamental skill level to enhance their opportunities of progression through the TNSW Development Pathway into NSW squads and teams
- Prepare athletes for the listed NSW ITU Youth and Junior Development races, with a major focus on draft legal racing and the ultimate goal of competing at the Australian Youth, Junior & U23 Triathlon Series
- Increase the level of athlete success in triathlon competitions and events nationwide
- Provide an introduction and progression into sport specific strength and conditioning
- Provide education around athletic and personal development, including nutrition, sport psychology, media skills, leadership, and drugs in sport
The following benefits will apply to those selected in the program:
- Skill Development Sessions Focused on the Skills Specific to the Sport of Triathlon (bike, run, swim)
- Strength and conditioning testing and review
- Strength & conditioning program, including supervised sessions in a partner gym facility
- Athlete education in topics such as nutrition, sports psychology, leadership and media skills.
- Access to a network of specialised coaches and guest speakers
- Compete at targeted TriNSW Events in the Billigence Championship Series
- Your Local Club Academy Games Tournament (selected athletes only)
- Discounted access to recommended IAS providers for services such as physiotherapy
- Optional Camp opportunites as offered by Triathlon NSW
- IAS merchandise
In order to be eligible for the 2025/26 program athletes must:
- Be between 13 and 18 years of age as at 31 December 2025 (2007-2013)
- Reside within one of five eligible local government areas – Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven or Wingecarribee
- Be registered with a Local Club/Association or directly with Triathlon Australia
- Possess physical and behavioural attributes that are considered essential to progress to a standard to be selected as members of the TNSW Emerging Talent Squad in the following 2-3 years
- Be able to commit to all planned IAS Program Events
Each applicant is reviewed by an independant selected panel of coaches, administrators and invited representatives. The IAS decision/s regarding athlete selection is based on objective and subjective measures and the IAS hold final responsibility for the selection of athletes.
Beginning in the 2025-26 scholarship year, the IAS will be offering both its traditional, fully supported places AND self-financed places to selected athletes.

The Triathlon program runs from September – April targeting specific TriNSW events such as the Billigence series and certain local Triathlon club races.
Skills sessions are scheduled around these key events once the calendar is finalised each year.
IAS athletes are required to purchase the IAS squad uniform, they also are required to contribute to additional components of the programs such as camps.
