Want to take the next step in your Golf career?
The IAS Golf Program is designed to support the developmental needs of the regions young talented golfers by providing industry leading high-performance sport development programs. Scholarships are offered for a 12-month period commencing in October and concluding in September.
The program will provide coaching, training and competition to improve athlete development with a view to:
- Develop the fundamental skill level of athletes which will enhance their opportunities for selection into NSW State squads and teams
- Prepare athletes to a level where their transition to any NSW State Team is ‘seamless’ in terms of programs or pathways
- Increase the level of success of those athletes at competition and events in Golf competitions nationwide
- Provide an introduction and progression into sport specific strength and conditioning
- Provide education around athletic development as well as personal development in topics such as Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Media Skills / Public Speaking, Youth Leadership, Drugs in Sport
- The program will conduct fortnightly skills based sessions and weekly strength and conditioning training to which attendance is expected.

2024/25 Scholarship
Athlete Eligibility
To be eligible for an IAS Golf Scholarship, athletes must:
- Reside within the Illawarra Region, Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee
- Be a playing member of a golf club affiliated with NSWGA through the IDGA
- Be aged between 12-17 years of age during the scholarship period (born 2007-2012)
- Must have a GA Handicap. Recommended handicap limit for boys is 12 and under, and for girls 18 and under.
Special consideration may be given to athletes outside the eligible age, subject to the approval of the IAS board

Selection Criteria
Satisfy the eligibility criteria and demonstrate the following qualities;
- Athletes MUST be a registered golfer of Golf NSW and MUST be a financial member of a local golf club within each respective catchment areas of the IAS
- Athletes should meet the handicap entry levels as agreed with JNJG
- JNJG may advise participating Academies of athletes who should be exempt of trials and gain automatic entry to a program, pending approval by the IAS
- Athletes chosen should have golf as their primary sport played
- Demonstrate through past performance and/or potential capacity, the potential to improve performance to a high level
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, commitment and dedication to improving performance
- Display an ability to apply coaching & technical instruction
- The ability or potential to work as part of a team to achieve excellence
Athlete selection will be performance based.

2024/25 Scholarship
Fees
The IAS is the only regional Academy to not charge an athlete levy to athletes successful in obtaining a scholarship. However, athletes may be required to contribute to some additional components of the program such as camps and tours.
Athletes will also be required to purchase the IAS squad uniform.
