Twelve of the twenty-two netball squad members were selected to play in the Academy Games. This selection was based on overall performances in games, training and fitness testing along with positive attitudes and attendance. Players included – Defences Annabel Bretag, Clair Chapman, Emily Osborne and Caitlin Williams Mid court Alex Cassidy, Courtney Hughes, Siobhan O’Brien and Jamie Woodard Shooters Laura Ducie, Molly Dugan, Jazmin Tweedle-O’Donnell and Rachel Lyon Games were played against the following academies from Friday to Sunday Friday – Sydney Netball Academy, Western Sydney Academy of Sport, South West Sydney Academy of Sport and Central Coast Academy of Sport Saturday – Hunter Academy of Sport, North Coast Academy of Sport, Northern Inland Academy of Sport and Far West Academy of Sport Sunday – Western Region Academy of Sport, Southern Sports Academy and South East Region Academy of Sport Players were rotated throughout games and all displayed excellent ability to both start and enter as impact players allowing for continuing team cohesion and opportunities to develop team plays and momentum. The individual and team development was evident throughout the games and it was pleasing to also see the team bonding with not only selected players but also those who attended the games cheering on their squad members. Players were able to work on individual components as well as team plays and this built over the three days with excellent results. The support and input of parents must also be acknowledged and thanked as they were vital in not only cheering the team on at all times but also providing back up with transport and “netball food” due to changes that occurred over the weekend. Thank you to the umpires from the local associations who participated and supported the Academy by officiating at the games. Vicki Jansen 2012 Netball Program Head Coach
